Last month I visited a wonderful exhibition in Mariemont: « Mari en Syrie: Renaissance d'une cité au 3e millénaire ». Quoting from Wikipedia,

"Mari (Cuneiform: 𒈠𒌷𒆠, mari-ki, modern Tell Hariri; Arabic: تل حريري) was an ancient Semitic city-state in modern-day Syria. Its remains form a tell 11 kilometers north-west of Abu Kamal on the Euphrates River western bank, some 120 kilometers southeast of Deir ez-Zor. It flourished as a trade center and hegemonic state between 2900 BC and 1759 BC. The city was built in the middle of the Euphrates trade routes between Sumer in the south and the Eblaite kingdom and the Levant in the west."

The exhibition had a huge impact on me -- it kind of brought back the feeling I had when I read "Götter, Gräber und Gelehrte, Roman der Archäologie" by Ceram (Kurt Wilhelm Marek). This piece is my way to sonify that feeling ^_^

It's for drums, contrabasses, derbake, piano. And Mari'mba, of course
