about

"The Sacred Symbols of Mu" is the title of an old book by James Churchward. Churchward called "Mu" a supposedly lost continent in the Pacific Ocean. It is now clear that no such continent truly existed, but "Mu" remains a fascinating word that throughout its long history collected a considerable amount of meanings and uses. "Mu" (無), for instance, is used to express the absence of something, but also nothingness, non-existence, or impossibility. Interestingly enough, 無 also expresses
"Pure awareness, prior to experience or knowledge".
And it even means "to dance" ^_^
I like to summarize all the above (and none of the above of course) by saying that "Mu" means
Losing Oneself while Dancing with Nothingness.

And well of course "Mu" is also the title of my latest track, a jazzy tune in 7/8 followed by a 4/4 going back to 7/8. A "-+-", that is. It could represent the emoji of a Buddha who closed their eyes to all experience and opened his Third Eye to seek the purest awareness of the 無.
The Buddha-nature, maybe? Could be. Or could be not.

The icon that I have chosen for my "Mu" shows a peculiar version of 無 from an ancient style of writing of Chinese characters -- the so-called Shuowen seal script. In it, I see two dancers, left and right, and above them their teacher, in the center, guiding them. Again a "-+-". On each dancer's "face", I overlapped faces I found in Jōmon statuettes.

So here's to you my "Mu" (無). As in Mu-sic, the Gateless Gate to Enlightenment.
